Wedding Ceremony Venues in Melbourne, close to San Remo Ballroom
When planning your wedding, there seems to be an infinite number of factors to consider – season, date, budget, venue, guest list, style, theme and aesthetic, colour palette, and menu to name a few! And within those factors there are many micro-elements to consider too – what flowers will be in season for the month you choose, are all the suppliers you want to use available on the chosen date, which great aunt or colleague needs to be cut from the guest list to get your numbers down, will your colour palette feel dated in the future or become a classic… it can feel endless!
One of the first, and most vital, decisions couples will need to make is where they envision their wedding ceremony. The actual ceremony venue or location where couples will say their vows and legally become hitched is super important as it is the first place all your guests gather so it sets the tone for the rest of the day. Depending on your beliefs, background and style, choosing the right wedding ceremony venue offers an opportunity to honour and include your religion and culture in your big day.
San Remo Ballroom is perfectly located in Carlton – only 2kms from the city center – which means there are plenty of wedding ceremony locations in close proximity. An added bonus of our prime location is it’s a short commute for your guests to travel between the ceremony and reception venues; there are a number of cafes, bars and restaurants close by for guests to visit if there is extended downtime from when your ceremony ends and the reception starts; we have ample parking within the area; San Remo Ballroom is super easy to get to via public transport; and there are also stunning locations surrounding us that provide the perfect backdrop for your wedding photography in between.
Because we love to share guidance and our expertise, we have created the list below of nearby wedding ceremony venues in Melbourne that many of our previous SRB couples have chosen. We know from experience and photos that these locations are gorgeous and cater to all of your ceremony needs.
St Patrick’s Cathedral
1 Cathedral Pl, East Melbourne VIC 3002
St Patrick’s Cathedral is a visually stunning and ethereal church on the outskirts of Melbourne city. At least one of the wedding couple must be a member of the Catholic faith, and a wedding ceremony here would lend itself to a more formal occasion that includes prayer and bible readings, running a little longer than a civil marriage ceremony. You can even arrange to have the bells of the cathedral rung out over the city to signify your union!
123 St Leonards Road, Ascot Vale
A beautiful suburban parish, dedicated to St Mary of the Immaculate Conception, this is another church for those of the Catholic faith. Inside there are beautiful soft palette artworks on the walls and is a great option for those living in the Moonee Valley council region and surrounding suburbs.
33 Howard St, West Melbourne VIC 3003
This Catholic church is beautiful inside! The decor is bright and colourful and a touch more modern than traditional churches. It also has lovely lush green garden spaces surrounding the building, so it offers nice little spots for your guests to mingle, set up a drinks station or have some photos taken outside.
230 Normanby Ave, Thornbury VIC 3071
The ‘Our Lady of Lebanon’ parish is the main church in Victoria dedicated to the Lebanese Maronite Catholic community. Very traditionally styled, it caters to Catholics of Middle Eastern descent and is great for those in the Northern suburbs.
152 Odessa Ave, Keilor Downs VIC 3038
St Mary of the Assumption Parish is dedicated to St Mary Mackillop, an Australian sister who was officially granted sainthood in 2010. This Catholic church is local to the residents of the City of Brimbank council and is modern, bright and airy.
Corner Collins & Russell Streets, Melbourne VIC 3000
Built in 1869, this is one of Melbourne’s oldest and grandest Presbyterian churches. Stunning arches, high ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows with plenty of flowing natural light make this a stunning wedding ceremony venue.
15 Gisborne St, East Melbourne VIC 3002
St Peter’s Eastern Hill is a beautiful and historically significant setting for an Anglican wedding in the center of Melbourne. Originally built from stone in a cottage style, this chapel is quaint, warm and welcoming. It also has beautiful surrounding gardens for photography, or for guests to enjoy.
15 Brighton Foreshore
Moving away from religious ceremony venues in Melbourne, lovers of the ocean and the outdoors can organise a permit to host their wedding ceremony at the beach. With the iconic brightly coloured bathing boxes as your background and the blue bay water in front of you, Brighton Beach is an idyllic wedding ceremony location!
Fitzroy Gardens Conservatory
Surrounded by nature, trees, lush green foliage, flowers and lawns is some couples’ preferred wedding ceremony style, and there are many beautiful gardens dotted around Melbourne, close to San Remo Ballroom, that allow wedding events. Be sure to check for guidelines, permit requirements and supplier access first, and of course, think about the weather and necessary sun and rain protection for any outdoor ceremony.
328 Swanston St, Melbourne VIC 3000
Australia’s most historic public library, State Library Victoria offers several choices of iconic spaces within the library for a unique wedding ceremony. For true romantics, you can surround yourself with some of the world’s most beloved books, tales and poetry, as you embark on your own love story.
Now you have an idea of where you want to host your wedding ceremony, be sure to check the ceremony venue’s available dates match your preferred wedding date and book both the ceremony venue and your San Remo Ballroom reception at the same time! Then pour a glass of wine, congratulate yourselves on making the first major decision and get ready to get stuck into the rest of your planning! (lucky we can help you with that too)
